A 16-year-old Trinity boy and 91-year-old Holiday woman were killed Friday night when the teen lost control of his car, drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into three vehicles in Pasco County, troopers said.
Matthew Joseph Capelo-Fine died at the scene of the crash on State Road 54, west of Lake Polo Drive in Odessa, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
Capelo-Fine was traveling east on State Road 54 about 9:30 p.m. when he lost control and traveled over a grass median and into the path of a westbound 2007 Hyundai Veracruz, driven by Joseph E. Furphy, 71, Gaskins said.
Capelo-Fine's 1997 BMW 328 struck the front of Furphy's vehicle, then rotated clockwise and hit a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Donald Watrous, 43, and a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Keisha Squire, 22, Gaskins said.
The PT Cruiser then hit the Veracruz, Gaskins said.
Anna Davis, a passenger in the Veracruz, died at Tampa General Hospital, Gaskins said.
Joseph Furphy received serious injuries, Gaskins said. Also in the Veracruz were Anna Furphy, 69, and Jilly Horaneck, 14, who both received serious injuries; and Collene Carberry, 13, who received minor injuries, Gaskins said.
Squire received minor injuries and Watrous was not injured, Gaskins said.
Debris from the crash struck the windshield and front of a fifth vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Impala, driven by Jessica Cameron, 30, Gaskins said.
Cameron was not injured, Gaskins said.
The crash remains under investigation.
