PLANT CITY Four armed masked men robbed a local supermarket Tuesday of cartons of cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The men forced their way into the Sweetbay at 205 W. Alexander St. as employees were leaving for the night, police said. The robbers held the employees captive while they stole cigarettes and money, including cash from the safe.

The suspects were dressed in purple Sweetbay polo shirts and wore gloves and masks to cover their hands and faces, police said.

The robbery appeared to be well-planned, police Sgt. Tray Towles said. No one has been arrested as the investigation continues.

Detectives ask that anyone with information to call the police department’s major crimes unit at (813) 757-9200.
