A group that supports Bruton Memorial Library is offering another chance to pick up books at bargain prices.
The Friends of the Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6. All kinds of books will be available.
This is the Friends’ second sale since January. The first one netted nearly $1,900 but didn’t clear out all the books.
“We have a lot of books to go,” Library Director Anne Haywood said.
The inventory includes books on cassette, she said.
Haywood said many people are clearing their homes of books as ebooks gain popularity.
The sale will be held in the Moody Community Room in the library at 302 W. McLendon St.
During the final two hours of the sale, prices will be reduced to a “bag of books for a buck.”
The library and the Friends of the Library receive thousands of book donations each year. Many of the items can be added to the library’s collection, but many others go into the Friends Bookstore, located inside the library behind the Service Desk.
Besides the donated materials, books are also placed for sale when they are retired from the library shelves.
Money raised by the Friends through the book store, special book sales and an annual mystery dinner theater pay for enhancements to the library including children’s special programs during the summer, the children’s aquarium and more.
