Regarding the closure of commissaries, there were other times in our history that “wars were over” and troop strength was reduced — World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
During those times our leaders in Washington, D.C., had the common sense to realize America still needed to support our men and women in uniform, especially their families. Today’s leaders have thrown the troops to the wind.
It is more important to provide all things possible to illegal immigrants and extensive welfare programs. Yes, there are American families who really need help, but I would guess about half are abusing the system. Who are supporting these people? The proud people on Social Security, retirees and military retirees. Yet they are the first ones attacked by presidential and congressional budget cuts. It seems a little upside down here.
Let congressmen and senators try to support their families on a GI’s paycheck.
