On sale to the American public: fear

Published:

Having lived through every war and national catastrophe since the “war to end all wars,” one thing, and only one, has become very clear to me: The government and the military keep telling us that if we let them spend more money and take away more of our rights, they will keep us safe.

We have thousands of military personnel all over the world. We have more than 16,000 people in the NSA, according to various sources, and about 400,000 people in Homeland Security. The CIA has 30,000-plus — the exact number isn’t publicly known.

I ask you: What is the government and the military “selling” the American public while they take away our rights and spend us into a second-rate nation?

I say it is fear that is on sale to the American public, as anyone can see if they monitor the reaction to cutting any of the above-named agencies.

I remember a great American who said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

What do you think?
