I recently read Steve Otto’s great column on fixing our schools (“Let’s uncover the issues to fix schools,” Metro, June 30). His quote was: “You see it in those dreary school board meetings where the first order of business almost always includes a back-slapping session that makes you wonder why the pope hasn’t sent over an emissary to tell them they were all up for sainthood.”
If we had term limits for board members, members such as Doretha Edgecomb, Carol Kurdell and Candy Olson could not stay on the board for 16 to 20 years.
This could possibly prevent them — when they finally retire — from having back, wrist and hand injuries from all the years of back slapping.
