Doublespeak on women’s health

Published:

The article in Saturday’s Tampa Tribune headlined as “Obama promises to back women’s health” seemed to be a classic case of Orwellian doublespeak.

The headline makes one think that the president is supporting making women more healthy.  The body of the article does not include any reference to actually improving health of any human.  The article is focused on abortions and seems to indicate that ‘women’s health’ is nothing but abortion.  Abortion might improve the economic health of some women but it certainly isn’t healthy for the human lives destroyed by it.

The article seems to show that the president continues his campaign to divide the country and attack anyone who does not completely agree with his views.  The president’s legacy will be determined by his actions in the next few years.  He seems intent to leave his mark as the great divider and destroyer of his enemies.

We expected and deserve better of him and can only hope that he will learn to be a leader with honor and integrity in his remaining time in office.  Leaders don’t divide; they offer a positive vision that can be believed and followed by all and not just the party in power.
