It's astounding to see articles about the plan to end the U.S. Postal Service's door-to-door mail service and Saturday delivery.
The postal service has been bankupt on paper for many years. There have been decades of poor service, and some workers are getting $30 an hour for an $8-an-hour job sorting mail - and not even getting some of the mail in the right post office boxes or in the right mail boxes at homes.
The postal workers' unions are pressing for more money and insurance, which drive the postal service's deficit higher every year.
The government handouts and increases to the price of stamps must stop. The postal service should be closed. Let the Internet, UPS, FedEx and DHL, etc., do the job the right way. They can even provide Saturday service for less cost and - shudder - get the mail in the right boxes.
