A veteran of the U.S. Marines says he was locked inside a Volusia County community clinic operated by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Jeffrey Duck, of Deltona, told WKMG he arrived as a “walk in” patient at the VA’s Orange City Community Based Outpatient Clinic around 1 p.m. Monday.

He said he sat in a consultation room for more than three hours before realizing he was alone in the building.

Duck said he was worried he’d be accused of trying to steal something so he took cellphone video of himself walking around the lobby. That set off the alarm, so he called 911.

The VA issued an apology to Duck on Tuesday and said they are reviewing their closing procedures.

Duck said he isn’t angry, just disappointed.

The clinic is in Orange City, about 30 miles southwest of Daytona Beach.
