The Blue Angels are set to return to the skies next year, and the schedule includes a stop in Lakeland for April’s Sun ’n Fun Fly-In.
The famed Navy flight demonstration team suspended its 2013 performances last spring due to federal spending cuts. The Navy released a full schedule for 2014 that includes 65 shows in 34 U.S. locations.
Among the stops is the 40th annual Fly-In at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport on April 5-6. The team last performed at the event in 2011.
Adm. John Kirby said this week that the Blue Angels and other Navy outreach groups, including the Leap Frogs parachute team and the Navy band, would return in 2014. In a news release, the Navy said demonstrating the professionalism and capabilities of the Blue Angels can inspire future generals of sailors and Marines.
“Community outreach is key to connecting Americans to the military,” Cmdr. Thomas Frosch said. “Our
performances provide a unique opportunity to inspire millions to connect with and support our service members, and we are looking forward to an exciting 2014 season.”
The Sun ’n Fun Fly-In runs April 1-6.
