WHAT TO DO

Plant a vegetable garden.

Fertilize lawn.

Watch for worm infestations in lawn.

Inspect sprinkler systems.

Divide herbaceous perennials and bulbs.

Groom roses to enhance fall bloom.

Set strawberry plants.

Prune cold-sensitive plants.

WHAT TO PLANT

Outstanding flowering plants: cape honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, cassia, hibiscus, ginger, goldenrod, oleander, roses.

Annuals: celosia, coleus, cosmos, foxglove, gomphrena, impatiens, marigold, ornamental pepper, portulaca, Zinnia linearis

Perennials: chrysanthemum, creeping phlox, day lilies, gazania, gerbera, moraea, pentas, verbena, yarrow

Vegetables: beans, broccoli, cabbage, celery, collards, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, English peas, lettuce, mustard, green and bulbing onions, pepper, radish, Southern peas, summer squash, turnips

Herbs and spices (from plants): anise, basil, borage, chervil, coriander, fennel, mint, rosemary, sage, thyme
