Lytess Corrective slimming belt

Available at select Bliss Spa locations, www.blissworld.com, www.bebeautiful.com, www.braSmyth.com, www.fitandsharp.com, and TimeforMeCatalog.com; $45 and $50

The pitch: Infused with caffeine and shea butter, this unique combination of active cosmetic ingredients works to increase circulation, moisturize the skin, drain fluids and activate lipolysis, the breakdown of stored fat.

The skinny: Body shapers have become a part of everyday life for me. They make me look and feel better in my clothes.

But a body shaper that also allows you to shed inches while you wear it? Sounds too good to be true.

Shapewear in the Lytess line is infused with caffeine and shea butter, which according the manufacturers, has been clinically proven to help slim you down. The corrective slimming belt is designed to trim down your midsection for the long-term while it smooths it for the day. But you have to wear the shapewear for 21 days, for up to eight hours per day, six days a week, in order for it to work its magic.

That's a prison sentence if the shapewear is heavy or tight, and the Lytess belt is made of a heavy Lycra material I found to be a bit uncomfortable for long-term wear. Plus, it made me sweat every time I wore it during the summer.

On the positive side, my tummy area looked sleeker and smoother in my clothes, which is what shapewear is all about.

This long-term midsection miracle is still a maybe for me - but if I'm going to lock myself into a heavy piece of shapewear on a regular basis, it will have to be in the winter.
