Q: Last year I wanted to enter the Recycled Yard Art Contest at the Hillsborough County Fair, but I didn’t. Are you having this contest at the fair again this year? If yes, what are the details?
Answer: Yes, the Hillsborough County Extension is sponsoring the Recycled Yard Art Contest at the fair again this year.
The fair dates this year are Oct. 23 to 26 and Oct. 30 to Nov. 2. We are accepting recycled yard art submissions at the fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20. The fairgrounds are on the east side of Brandon at the intersection of State Road 60 and Sydney Washer Road.
The goal of the contest is to increase environmental awareness and encourage reuse/recycling of materials into yard art. The competition involves two- and three-dimensional art projects created from items previously used for their original purpose. There are four categories: Elementary School, Middle School, High School and Post High School. First-place awards will be given to individual and/or group entries. Winning entries will be displayed at the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County office for one month after the close of the fair.
If you would like to get a jump on this and want an entry form now, please email me. This information will be placed on our website in the near future. We hope to receive a lot of submissions this year.
