Hillsborough County residents who want to turn “trash” into “treasure” can learn from the experts with the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County office when they sign up for a free composting workshop.

The Saturday, Oct. 4 8:30 a.m. event takes place at the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County office, located at 5339 County Rd. 579, Seffner and lasts about one hour.

Class participants will get a free compost bin and thermometer for their home composting use.

There is a limit of one free compost bin per household and space is limited to participate.

Interested residents are invited to reserve their space online in advance of the Sept. 21 deadline. Space is limited and workshops do fill up.

Also on the calendar is a free rainwater harvesting workshop at 10:30 a.m. on that same day.

Residents must reserve their spot online in order to claim a free rain barrel for their home use. There is a limit of one free rain barrel per household and prior participants in the workshop are not eligible to receive the free items.

Participation is limited to adults who live in Hillsborough County only.

For more information, visit the Hillsborough County Extension Office website.
