The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced the first freshwater license-free fishing weekend coming in April.

April 5 and April 6 will be the first opportunity for anglers to fish without obtaining the annual license in 2014.

There are eight license-free fishing days per year, where the requirement to have a recreational fishing license is waived for residents and visitors. All other fishing and boating rules and regulations still apply.

New in 2014, all eight license-free fishing days will fall on the same weekend days from year to year, allowing potential anglers to plan fishing trips in advance and businesses and nonprofit groups to plan events around these fishing license holidays.

The recurring days are:

Saltwater:

* The first Saturday and Sunday in June

* The first Saturday in September

* The Saturday following Thanksgiving

Freshwater:

* The first Saturday and Sunday in April

* The second Saturday and Sunday in June

An annual license is only $17.50 for residents.

Children don't need a fishing license until they are 16.
