The commander of MacDill Air Force Base’s 6th Mission Support Group was appointed to lead the Defense Department’s only tri-service military base. Air Force Col. James Hodges took command of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and the 87th Air Base Wing in New Jersey during a ceremony Thursday. Hodges succeeded Col. John Wood, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general and is being reassigned as deputy director of strategic plans, requirements and programs at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst includes active-duty, reserve and guard service members of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Hodges had assumed command of the 6th Mission Support Group at MacDill in July 2011.
