Hillsborough deputies seek suspect in stolen car

One man was arrested and another is being sought after Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies scuffled with a suspect in a stolen car this afternoon.

At 3:04 p.m., deputies spotted a stolen Mercury pulling into the parking lot of the Farm Store, 2202 E. 131st Ave. Two deputies pulled in after the stolen vehicle and approached it.

Deputy Brian Dawsy ordered passenger Khalil Ali, 20, 4315 S. Renellie Drive, out of the vehicle as Deputy Alex Moon ordered the driver to show his hands. Ali exited the car and began fighting with Dawsy, who broke away and used his Taser on the suspect.

Ali was able to remove the prongs of the Taser and fled on foot, shouting at the driver to leave. The driver took off, striking both deputies’ vehicles as he fled. southbound on 22nd Street toward University Mall.

Moon and Dawsy chased Ali over two fences and saw him discard marijuana that was packaged for distribution, deputies said. After a short chase, Ali was taken into custody.

Ali is being charged with resisting with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and possession with intent to deliver.

Deputies are still searching for the driver of the vehicle. He is described as a dark-skinned male, approximately 5-foot-11 with an average build and a crew cut. He was last seen driving a late 1990s champagne-colored 4-door Mercury. The vehicle has plastic sheeting on the driver’s side window, a busted passenger headlight and is missing the front passenger hubcap.
