Available at Target, Walmart and CVS stores, and online at drugstore.com and amazon.com; prices vary by store, about $8.99 each for 3-ounce face lotion and 6-ounce body lotion
The pitch: Face: “Formulated with with patented collagen-boosting peptide Syn-Coll ... reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boosts collagen production and protects collagen from further damage.” Body: “Vitamin B3 targets age spots while Pentavitin delivers instant deep hydration that lasts more than 72 hours after application. ... Brightens skin and evens skin tone.”
The skinny: I don’t know why it took so long, but one day the light went on over my vanity and in my brain:
Instead of using a moisturizer and body lotion with sun protection built in, why not use sun protection products that also moisturize and fight wrinkles? You’ll get a higher SPF and eliminate a step in your morning routine.
The old answer might have been that sunscreens don’t offer the anti-aging ingredients that work on fine lines and skin tone. But that isn’t true any more. So when I received these two Ocean Potion products — which promise to brighten skin and even lighten age spots — I decided to give the theory a try.
And here’s the good news for you ladies (and, yes, gentlemen) who are diligently searching for products that do it all: These come as close as any I’ve tried.
Which means — cue the trumpet blast — the body lotion really does fade those age spots. Not completely, but more so than other products that make the same claim. At first, I thought it was just wishful thinking, but the spots on my arms and legs are definitely lighter.
And though the face product smells a little like a plastic pool toy going on (the scent fades quickly, thank goodness), it does the trick as well.
I don’t know why they didn’t put the same spot-fading ingredient in the face lotion, but it works fine on fine lines and keeps my face feeling moisturized. There’s no heavy, oily feeling and no breakouts.
Both products absorb quickly, which is a real plus if you’re using the face lotion under makeup. The SPF on the face lotion is 35; for the body it’s 45.
Given the price of most face and body moisturizers these days, these are a bargain. If you can get past the plastic scent and the plain plastic tubes, they are definitely worth trying.
