We Tried It: Nutrisystem EnergiZING Chocolate Shake Mix and Craving Crusher Chocolate Shake Mix

Published:

Available now at nutrisystem.com; $19.99 for seven-pack (as part of your Nutrisystem plan)

The question comes up pretty much every afternoon: Can I make it until dinner without a snack?

Absolutely I can, I tell myself — all the way to the vending machine. On workdays when I know I won’t eat dinner until 8 or later, it’s hard not to grab a bag of Cheez-Its or pretzels.

There are smarter options out there, of course. But convenience is a big factor for me. And by 3 p.m., I’ve already devoured the bananas and 60-calorie pudding snack I brought from home.

That’s where these Nutrisystem shakes come in handy. I can keep the packets in my desk, and when my stomach starts growling, it only takes a minute to add the powder to 8 ounces of cold water and shake.

And they are delicious. There’s no chalky taste and no clumpy residue sitting at the bottom of the shaker.

In a blind taste test, I couldn’t tell the difference between the metabolism-boosting EnergiZING shake and the hunger-curbing Craving Crusher. Both live up to my chocoholic expectations. But the former has fewer calories (120 vs. 160), so I usually go with that one. (Both crush my cravings.)

The shakes are only available on the Nutrisystem website as part of the new 2014 diet. At almost $3 a pop, they are pricey, but I really feel they’ve helped me kickstart my diet, and I’m hoping they’ll help me stay strong during and after the holidays.
