We Tried It: Clif Mojo Fruit & Nut and Dark Chocolate Trail Mix Bars

Published:

Available at Target, Wal-Mart, and many running and cycling shops, or online at clifbarstore.com; $1.49 for one, $5.99 for five-bar pack

The pitch: “A delicious way to energize your day.”

The skinny: There’s a reason the Clif brand has become synonymous with energy bars. The company continues to come up with new mixes and flavors that are both delicious and good for you.

The brand’s fruit and nut and dark chocolate Mojo bars are no exception. They may be the best Clif bars yet. I tried five Mojo flavors — Wild Blueberry Almond, Cranberry Almond, Coconut Almond Peanut, Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate Cherry Almond. All are delicious, but — a suprise for this chocoholic — I thought the blueberry and cranberry were the best.

That isn’t a knock on the others. All are worthy snacks — and so satisfying, you could absolutely substitute one for lunch on a busy day.

And you might want to. These bars are not low in calories; they range from 160 to 200.

But they’re packed with healthy organic ingredients, good-for-you fats and fiber, and they’re gluten-free.

Perhaps my favorite thing, though, is that even thought they are delicious, one is enough. You’ll be full fast, so unlike with other snacks (I’m talking to you, bottomless box of Cheez- Its) you won’t be tempted to just keep eating.
