Labor spanned two years for 25-year-old Monica Johnson, who gave birth today to the Tampa Bay area's first baby of the New Year – 8-pound, 21-inch Baylin Henry Konitzer.

But while the process started with induced labor on Monday, in 2012, and ended after midnight, in 2013, Johnson only had to push for about 20 minutes.

The boy was born 13 seconds after midnight at Mease Countryside Hospital, 3231 McMullen Booth Road in Safety Harbor.

The father, 27-year-old Steven Konitzer, and others in their families were at Johnson's side in the hospital room this morning when they invited reporters in for a visit.

Numbers have figured in the couple's relationship before, they said.

Friends since middle school, Johnson and Konitzer didn't have their first date until last year – on 11/11/11. They became engaged this past Christmas Eve when Konitzer presented Johnson with a big box hiding an aquamarine birthstone ring inside.

And they've set a date for the wedding: 11/12/13.

They wanted a date they could remember, relatives explained.

Still, Johnson insisted, "We don't have a thing for numbers."
