DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina company that bills itself as the world's largest testing drug firm is celebrating the Scottish surgeon credited with running the first scientifically valid tests for a health problem.
Quintiles Transnational on Monday joins companies and other organizations around the world in celebrating International Clinical Trials' Day. It's observed around the world at this time to remember Dr. James Lind, who in the mid-1700s compared different treatments for scurvy. Lind served aboard British Navy ships, and sailors with scurvy suffered loose teeth and bleeding gums.
His careful comparison of different treatments led to the finding that citrus fruits cured scurvy.
Durham-based Quintiles is posting special content on its clinical research website and marking the international celebration on social media.
