SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert's office is announcing the governor is recovering from a minor surgical treatment Wednesday for skin cancer.
The announcement Thursday is the first time the governor's office revealed Herbert's diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma, a common, slow-growing form of skin cancer.
A statement from Herbert's office says the diagnosis was made recently, and the governor's procedure Wednesday involved a minor out-patient surgical treatment.
The statement says the procedure went as planned and the governor is expected to have a complete recovery.
Herbert's office did not release further details about his diagnosis or the treatment.
The governor is expected to have minor modifications to his calendar of public appearances.
