CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition has been awarded a grant to help enroll children who are eligible for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the grant Tuesday as part of nearly $32 million in agency grants to reduce the number of uninsured children.
The Chicago-based coalition was awarded nearly $1 million. Executive director Janine Lewis says the funding will be used to equip more than 5,000 health care providers, faith leaders and social service providers with information about how children can get health coverage.
The coalition plans to work in partnership with the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, Health and Disability Advocates and the United Way.
