If you’re never quite sure whether the ads for popular beauty products can be believed, relax. Our 4you Beauty Board is made up of veteran testers ready to try the latest when it comes to all things beauty. We’ll share what worked and what bombed with the hope of making life a little easier for you.

Check out our online database of reviews at TBO.com, search: Beauty Board.Available at stores and online at Target, Wal-Mart, Publix, CVS and Walgreens, drugstore.com and soap.com; $5.50 to $5.99 for 25 wipes.

“Extra soft facial wipes with skin loving ingredients that refresh skin and help reduce unwanted oil and shine. These wipes are perfect, even for sensitive skin.”

Rating: B –

Cloe says: I’ve used a lot of cleansing wipes in my life, mainly because of convenience. They’re a great way to get the makeup off if you’re pressed for time or too tired to wash your face. Simple wipes are not only budget-friendly, they don’t contain alcohol, perfumes or dyes that can cause breakouts, which is a big plus for my oily but sensitive skin. And you don’t need to rinse your face after using them, because the pads don’t leave behind any type of residue. If you wear waterproof mascara, like I do, it takes a little extra scrubbing to take it all off — and more than a few times I still woke up with raccoon eyes. The package also can pose a problem because it closes with a sticker, which doesn’t always form a tight seal, and the pads can dry out if you’re not careful.

Olay Fresh Effects S’Wipe Out! Refreshing Make-up Removal Cloths

Available at most drugstores and at olay.com; $4.99 for a pack of 20 wipes

“With light Olay moisture and vitamin E, they leave skin feeling clean, soft and smooth”

Rating: B+

Michelle says: A makeup wipe is a makeup wipe, right? Au contraire. These wipes have a nice advantage on a few counts. For starters, besides dirt and makeup, they work well on waterproof and long-wearing mascara. Another bonus is that Olay has added a touch of fragrance to the cloth, which means it doesn’t smell antiseptic. Some similar products I’ve used don’t retain the moisture even when properly sealed; this soft dispenser did the job admirably with a seal that didn’t lose its stickiness. The package scrunches down so they’re perfect for travel or to carry in your purse for a quick cleanup. One cloth usually does the job, but I always use a second to clean up my neck. I’m loving Olay’s new Fresh Effects line, and this new addition did not disappoint.

Pond’s Evening Soothe Wet Cleansing Towelettes with Chamomile & White Tea

Available at Walgreens, CVS, Publix, Target and Wal-Mart; $5.99 for 30 wipes

“Gently clean away all traces of dirt and make-up, while calming the skin and senses.”

Rating: A-

Shantae says: Yes, we’ve all heard “don’t sleep in your makeup, it’s bad for your skin”. Let’s be honest, we’ve all done it a time or two. Here’s where these Pond’s Cleansing Towelettes come into play. I’ve been using the Evening Soothe wipes for about a month. I love the light chamomile and white tea scent, and they don’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight. The 7-inch square towelettes are very durable. They aren’t super saturated but wet enough to remove oil and makeup easily. Waterproof makeup requires a little extra effort. Although they don’t remove all traces of makeup, it did leave my face feeling as if I had applied a cold masque. They’re perfect for minimal makeup users or a night when you’re too lazy for a thorough cleansing and just want to jump in bed. They are very convenient, gentle and effective, and travel-friendly.

L’Oreal Revitalift Radiant Smoothing Wet Cleansing Towelettes

Available at Walgreens, CVS, Target and other stores that carry cosmetics; $6.69 for 30 towelettes

“Helps to remove all traces of impurities and even eye make-up. Gently exfoliates dead skin cells and helps enhance skin smoothness and radiance.”

Rating: B

Kim says: Probably the most important thing I can say about these towelettes is that they are pre-moistened and they stay moist. I’ve tried others that haven’t, and had just about given up on finding an easy-to-take-with-you pouch that works as well this one. The towelettes do a fine job of cleaning, too, and they don’t dry out my skin. I’m not a fan of the scent, which isn’t bad but is strong. And sometimes I pull out more than one wipe at a time and have to jam the unused one back into the pouch. But over all, I was happy with the convenience and quality of this product.
