PLANT CITY The Plant City Lions Club is seeking players and sponsors for its annual golf tournament.

The event will be a day of fun on the course, along with food and prizes, but the ultimate goal is to raise money to help the needy who can’t see.

“We hope to raise $10,000,” tournament chairman Dave Davenport said.

The fundraiser will be held Oct. 4 at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club, 2001 Clubhouse Drive. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m.

For the golfers, the day will include food, prizes and drawings. The cost is $100 for an individual or $400 for a team of four.

Highlights include a golf cart for a hole-in-one.

Sponsorship levels include:

Title sponsor, $5,000, includes 12 player slots, name listed on all promotional materials, two hole signs and more.

King Lion sponsor, $2,000, includes tournament advertisements, eight player slots, hole sign and more.

Pride sponsor, $1,000, includes tournament advertisements, four player slots, hole sign and more.

Cub sponsor, $600, includes advertisements, four player slots, hole sign and more.

The tournament is also in need of watering hole sponsors, who offer food or beverages to golfers along the course, Davenport said. The sponsors can pass out promotional literature during the tournament.

“They don’t have to be a restaurant to be a watering hole sponsor. They could be an insurance company that offers Diet Coke to golfers,” he said.

The tournament also needs donations of prizes for drawings, he said. Davenport is expecting about 100 golfers.
