Festivities began shortly after dawn and will continue well into the evening Saturday as the 100th mock invasion of Gasparilla pirates set a raucous tone for a sunny day of fun on Hillsborough Bay, in downtown Tampa and along Bayshore Boulevard.
A record-sized crowd attended Saturday's Gasparilla festivities, said Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy. A final estimate of the number of people won't be available until Monday.
