Free and Cheap: Discounts, freebies to salute Veterans Day

Several Tampa Bay businesses and other groups are scheduling freebies and discounts to honor veterans and military during the month of November and on Veterans Day. We've rounded up several that we know about, but if you know of others leave us a note on our Facebook page.

 

Einstein Bros. Bagels: Veterans and military can enjoy a classic or signature bagel with any topping at participating Einstein locations on Monday, Nov. 11. Just visit http://www.einsteinbros.com/ for locations near you.

 

PDQ: Veterans and active duty military with proper ID will be treated to a free sandwich or three tenders on Monday, Nov. 11. Visit http://eatpdq.com for locations.

MOSI:In honor of Veterans Day, all active and retired military personnel, EMTs, firefighters, first responders and police officers receive admission to MOSI for only $5 on Monday. Offer not to be combined with any other coupon or discount and excludes special engagement films, events and sky trail ropes course and zip line. Greek Fest: Military, veterans and their families are invited to attend the annual Greek Festival for free at St. John Greek Orthodox Church (2418 Swann Ave., Tampa) this weekend. National Park Service: Everybody can enjoy free entrance to national parks, not just military personnel, on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 9-11. To find a park near you or for more information, visit the National Park Service site for more.

 

State Park Service: The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is celebrating Veterans Day with free park entry for everyone at state parks (excluding the Skyway Fishing Pier) on Monday, Nov 11. For a list of parks and amenities, visit http://www.floridastateparks.org/ 

 

Tampa Museum of Art: Veterans, military and their families are invited to enjoy the works on display at the Tampa Museum of Art from 11 a.n. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. During the day, a docent tour will be offered at 1 p.m. and children's art activities from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Proper military ID is required at the ticket window. Theme parks: Seaworld Parks & Entertainment is offering a 50 percent discount to veterans and active duty military until Nov. 11. The discounts apply to the following parks: Adventure Island, Aquatica, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, Sea World, Sesame Place, and Water Country USA. Basketball game: Active duty military will be treated to two free game tickets at the Sunday, Nov. 10 2 p.m. USF women vs. Central Connecticut State when they show proof of service at the ticket window. Twelve-year-old Savannah Maddison will be performing the national anthem at the event as well as hosting a table for a letter-writing campaign for troops overseas. Ideal Massage & Spa: Ideal Massage & Spa – Wesley Chapel is honoring veterans with a free 30 minute massage. Outback: Free beverage and a Bloomin' Onion is offered for military and veterans on Monday, Nov. 11.

 

Sweet Tomatoes: Military in uniform or with proper DOD ID will be treated to either a half price meal or a BOGO offer with another diner Saturday, Nov. 9 - Monday, Nov. 11. Cannot be combined with other offers and beverage must be purchased.

 

Hooters: All veterans and active duty military get a free meal on Nov. 11. Visit www.hooters.com for details and locations.

 

Denny's: Denny's is giving away never-ending stacks of buttermilk pancakes to active, inactive and retired military personnel on Monday, Nov. 11 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all participating Denny's restaurants nationwide. Diners must provide a valid military ID to redeem the offer.

 

Free concert: The Carrollwood Winds community concert band will perform a free concert honoring our country's heroes at 8 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 9) at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road, Tampa. For more information, visit our events listing.

 

Great Clips: Customers who come in for a haircut at any Great Clips salon on Nov. 11, will receive a free haircut card to give to an active/inactive/retired military member of any branch. Military members can also come in on Veterans Day for a free haircut or to pick up a free haircut card. Military members have until Dec. 31 to redeem the card with proof of service to get their free haircut. There is a limit one card per customer. Applebees: Applebee's will offer veterans and active duty military a free entrée as a thank you for their service. Participants can chose from a limited entrée menu including a 7 oz. House Sirloin, Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger, Double Crunch Shrimp, Three-Cheese Chicken & Sun Dried Tomato Penne, Fiesta Lime Chicken, Chicken Tenders Platter or Oriental Chicken Salad.

 

Lowry Park Zoo: In honor of Veterans Day, military personnel (active-duty, retirees and veterans) will receive free admission on Nov. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Department of Defense photo ID is required to redeem the offer at the ticket window. As many as three direct dependents of military personnel also are entitled to free admission on that day. Dependents may take advantage of the offer without their service member with proper ID, though an adult must accompany minors. For more information, visit www.lowryparkzoo.com.

 

Florida Aquarium: The Florida Aquarium, located near downtown Tampa, will offer any veteran, active duty military, drilling reservist or National Guardsman two free admission tickets for themselves and a guest on Nov. 11. Up to four additional family members can also receive half-price admission on that day. Proper military ID or DD214 must be presented at time of purchase and the offer cannot be combined with any other discounts or coupons. Veterans and military can also visit the aquarium's Cafe Ray for a special $1 “fish fry” meal on that day. The meal includes fried fish, cole slaw and french fries. United Skates: United Skates will salute military members and their families with their choice of one of two free skating sessions (noon-4 p.m. or 5-7:30 p.m.) on Nov. 11.
