LITHIA — Concertgoers contributed three tons of food to Feeding America Tampa Bay through Newland Communities’ 2013 concert series, Concerts for a Cause.
The series started in 2006 at Park Square in FishHawk Ranch as “one of the quality activities for our residents,” said Lynda McMorrow, marketing manager for FishHawk Ranch.
Concerts for a Cause spread to outside The Landing & Café at Waterset this year. Between the two venues, local professional bands played six summer concerts of classic rock and Top 40 hits.
Over the years, as the shows became more popular, Newland Communities tied in “a great cause to a great event,” said McMorrow. “We are passionate about our entire Tampa Bay community, and the widespread issue of hunger led us to collecting food for Feeding America Tampa Bay.”
Thomas Mantz, Feeding America Tampa Bay’s executive director, said in a press release, “The food gathered by FishHawk Ranch and Waterset residents will help keep our partner charities supplied with shelf-stable food and will help feed the 700,000 hungry people across West Central Florida. This year’s event has exceeded goals and expectations once again, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have partnered with Newland Communities.”
