In 2011, Southern Crafted Homes has seen a 33 percent increase over its 2010 sales figures. That would constitute a substantial increase for any company, but it is especially impressive for a homebuilder in the current economy, according to Jim Deitch, chief operating officer for Southern Crafted Homes.

Deitch cites several reasons why he feels his company has been so successful in a difficult economic climate, including the company's policy of exceeding customer expectations in all aspects of the new home buying experience. Those reasons can all be found in the three Tampa Bay communities where Southern Crafted Homes is currently building.

"Our gated communities are conveniently located to downtown Tampa, the airport and the beaches," Deitch said. "There are no Community Development District fees that add to buyers' costs."

The Preserve at Quailwoods in Wesley Chapel features oversize home sites since more than half of the community is natural wetlands preserve and conservation areas. That allowed Southern Crafted Homes to create more open space between the homes within the community. The 10 floor plans being offered in The Preserves range in size from 1,700 to 3,400 square feet, with prices starting in the high $100,000s. The community includes a park and playground.

North Tampa is the location of Southern Crafted Homes' Devonwood Luxury Villas, which features a resort pool and cabana. The six floor plans being offered range in size from 1,461 to 2,023 square feet and are priced from the high $150,000s. The exterior maintenance is provided by the community, which leaves homeowners with more time to spend on more enjoyable pursuits.

At Stonegate, in Land O' Lakes, Southern Crafted Homes offers five distinct villages and three product lines to go with the multitude of amenities, which includes a clubhouse, playground, park, lap pool, resort pool, hiking trails and a fishing pier. Homes in the community range in size from 1,700 to 4,500 square feet and are priced from the $180,000s.

All three communities feature Southern Crafted Homes' high standard of construction quality as well as the latest technology to create a durable home and healthy living environment, with big savings on utility bills, according to Deitch.

"Our Eco-Crafted homes feature Florida Green Building Coalition's green certification and Energy Star Certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency," Deitch explained. "The homes are designed and built to conserve water, provide clean interior air quality and to reduce utility bills. Southern Crafted Homes are 47 percent more efficient than homes built before 2006 and 29 percent more efficient than homes built after 2006 that were not built to Energy Star standards."

Southern Crafted Homes has been recognized by several organizations for its commitment to providing healthy, energy efficient, environmentally friendly homes. The company received the Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award for 2010 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Builder of the Year Award from the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC). Since early 2009, 100 percent of the company's homes have been Energy Star certified and Green certified according to the FGBC standards.

Along with providing green homes at a reasonable price, Southern Crafted Homes provides further peace of mind to buyers with its warranty.

"We have one of the best, if not the best, warranties in the industry, and a $1 million Taexx termite guarantee," Deitch said. "We are the only builder in the Tampa Bay area to offer a four-year systems guarantee as well."

After 21 years in business, Southern Crafted Homes remains successful because of its commitment to exceeding customer expectations, according to Deitch.

"We are able to offer a wider variety of floor plans to meet the diverse needs of today's homebuyers," he said. "Our in-house ability to customize homes in a very short time frame allows us to create personalized plans and unique options that most homebuilders cannot accommodate. We build on customers' own home sites as well as within our communities."

Southern Crafted Homes gives back to the community as well, especially to those who have served in our armed forces.

We are currently working with Homes for Our Troops to deliver a specially adapted home for Sgt. Austin Burchard," Deitch said. "He became a paraplegic after being shot through the chest by automatic weapons fire in Afghanistan. This month the home is being given to Sgt. Burchard at no charge, through the donations of Southern Crafted Homes and their contractors and suppliers, in honor of his service and sacrifice."
