World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform with the Florida Orchestra as part of gala concert at The Mahaffey in St. Petersburg on Jan. 31, 2015.
Also, The Ben Folds Orchestral Experience, featuring the pop singer performing his hits and as soloist in his own piano concerto, will come to Tampa’s Straz Center on Nov. 7.
The Florida Orchestra announced the two additions to its season early this morning.
Ma is one of the most accomplished and recognized figures in the world of classical music.
In addition to a wealth of classical recordings, Ma’s discography of over 90 albums, reflects the cellist’s wide-ranging interests, including his multicultural musical performances with the Silk Road Ensemble, which leads student workshops and partners with cultural institutions to create and provide educational materials and programs.
The Florida Orchestra Gala featuring Ma, includes a pre-concert dinner and a post-concert reception. The announcement is a “save-the-date” notice with priority advance tickets going on sale to subscribers later this spring. Ticket prices have not been announced.
Folds was frontman of the Ben Folds Five before embarking on a solo career. He also was a judge on NBC’s a capella reality show, “The Sing Off.”
Tickets for the Ben Folds Orchestral Experience are $35 to $95 and are on sale to subscribers now by calling (727) 892-3337 or (800) 662-7286. Tickets go on sale to the general public in August.
