‘Walking Dead Escape’ brings zombie apocalypse to Tampa

The zombie horde has already infected every aspect of pop culture, now it’s spreading to a college campus in Tampa.

The Walking Dead Escape, a touring obstacle course based on the hit AMC series “The Walking Dead,” is coming to the USF Sun Dome May 10 from 6 p.m. to midnight.

“Walking Dead” fans who aren’t content to watch zombies from the comfort of their couch can participate as “survivors” ($75) or undead “walkers” ($95) at the event, which features “five elements of the apocalypse” that will be familiar to viewers, including a prison setting, a highway filled with abandoned cars and an overrun hospital.

Walkers will receive a professional makeup session before they stalk survivors for 90 minutes on the course.

Those who’d rather watch the apocalypse unfold from somewhere safe can register as spectators for $20.

The event is currently touring the U.S., with other Florida stops planned for Miami (May 3) and Jacksonville (May 17).

Registration is online at thewalkingdeadescape.com.
