Fans of “Doctor Who” will come together to celebrate, compete and rock out over the 50th anniversary of the British sci-fi series Nov. 9 in Tampa.
Time Lord Fest at The Mary Help Center will feature a full day of Whovian events, including a performance by the Ken Spivey Band, once praised by MTV Geek as one of the best TROCK bands around (that’s Timelord Rock, and yes, there’s more than one band making it).
There will also be “live time lord combat,” costume and trivia contests, vendors, panel discussions and a “Science of Doctor Who” demonstration by Dr. Geek’s Lab.
A full-sized TARDIS — that’s the blue police box that the Doctor uses to travel through time — will be on display for photo opportunities.
Among the guests will be Debbie Viguié, a New York Times bestselling author of young adult novels, including the “Wicked” series.
Tickets are $20 through the Time Lord Fest Eventbrite page. The festival is set to run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 6400 E. Chelsea St.
The series, which has been through many different incarnations and 11 different actors in the title role, premiered Nov. 23 1963. The most recent version has aired in the U.S. on BBC America since 2010. The cable network plans to air a 50th anniversary special titled “The Day of The Doctor” on Nov. 23.
