Tampa shops plan events for Free Comic Book Day

Saturday is a big day for superhero fans and bargain hunters alike.

Free Comic Book Day is back at independent comic book shops across the U.S. and participating stores will give away comic books to anyone who stops by, even if they don’t buy anything.

Shops have differing policies on how many freebies each customer can select from more than 50 special Free Comic Book Day releases, but everyone gets at least one (and most shops give more).

Shops around the Tampa Bay area are planning huge sales on their regular merchandise, special in-store guests and other events to coincide with their giveaways.

In Tampa, Heroes’ Haven in Carrollwood is planning a block party with food trucks, music and more than a dozen artists in the store meeting fans and signing books, while Thunder Road Comics on Hillsborough Avenue will be offering 50 percent off graphic novels and selling all its new comics for only $1 each.

Comic World in Largo will have Captain America and Thor on hand for photo opportunities, plus artist Nigel Williams will be drawing customers as their favorite superheroes.

A full list of participating stores and special events is available at freecomicbookday.com/storelocator.
