Superheroes to swoop through Tampa for ‘Marvel Universe Live’

If watching “The Avengers” in Imax 3D left you yearning for something even more intense and realistic, you may want to keep an eye out for a massive, new, live production coming to Tampa this summer.

Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man and Wolverine are among the dozens of Marvel superheroes and villains in “Marvel Universe Live,” an 85-city arena tour stopping at the Forum from July 10 to 13.

Tickets, priced at $40, $60 and $120, are on sale now through Ticketmaster, the Forum box office, or by calling (800) 745-3000.

The ambitious show will feature aerial stunts, pyrotechnics, movie-style special effects and more than 25 Marvel characters performing on a multi-level set covering the entire floor of the arena, a news release from show creators Feld Entertainment said.

The original story will be based around a battle over the “cosmic cube,” a dangerously powerful item in comic book lore, shattered into pieces by Thor to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. When Thor’s villainous brother Loki tries to clone its powers, it sets off a global battle that includes familiar Marvel villains Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Red Skull, the release said.

“To see all the elements of this spectacular live show come together has been truly incredible,” Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada said in the news release. “The technology utilized in the show is not only going to blow your mind, it is going to take you to a whole new Marvel world like nothing fans have ever seen before.”

Other Feld Entertainment productions include Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus, Monster Jam monster trucks, Nuclear Cowboyz motocross and Disney On Ice.
