Olympic ice dancing partners Charlie White and Meryl Davis won gold together in Russia, but they will compete against each other on the ballroom floor this spring on “Dancing With the Stars.”
The ABC-TV dance competition announced the cast for its 18th season Tuesday morning.
In addition to the skating team, the show will feature 76-year-old actor Billy Dee Williams, comic and “Price Is Right” host Drew Carey, pop singers Cody Simpson and James Maslow (“Big Time Rush”), and actresses Danica McKellar (“Wonder Years”) and Candace Cameron Bure (“Full House”).
Also dancing this year are distance swimmer Diana Nyad, who successfully swam from Cuba to Florida in 2013 without a shark cage, “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes and former hockey player Sean Avery.
Davis and White became the first Americans to win Olympic ice dance gold in Sochi. On Monday, they announced they would skip their sport’s world championships in Japan this month to “leave our options open for the future.”
The “DWTS” season premieres March 17 at 8 p.m.
Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews, who grew up in the Tampa area, joins the show this season as a co-host with longtime co-host Tom Bergeron. Andrews, who finished third in the competition in 2010, replaces Brooke Burke-Charvet.
Ray Chew was hired as musical director and composer, and he’ll lead a new group of musicians and singers. The show fired bandleader Harold Wheeler and his 28-member band.
Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli return as judges.
