MacDinton’s Irish Pub hosting head-shaving event

Drinking isn’t normally a great way to lose weight, but a few people will soon walk out of MacDinton’s Irish Pub just a little bit lighter.

More than 30 men and women have signed up to shave their heads during a Shave Off on Saturday at the South Tampa bar.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation event raises funds and awareness for childhood cancer research. From 4 to 8 p.m., participants will shave their heads to support the foundation’s goal of raising $30,000 through the event.

The Shave Off is being held in honor of 14-year-old Samantha Lee, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2006, and other local children affected by cancer. Lee, who is now cancer free, will be in attendance.

The event will feature live music and a raffle for a hockey stick signed by Tampa Bay Lightning player Steven Stamkos.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation hosts signature head-shaving events around the U.S. where volunteers collect pledges and then shave their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer.

Information on how to sign up for the event or donate is available at the Macdinton’s event page.
