The Lowry Park Zoo will celebrate children and Hispanic culture with special events for zoo visitors on Sunday.
In honor of the zoo’s fourth annual Día del Niño, there will be appearances by characters from the bilingual kids’ shows “Dora the Explorer” and “Go Diego Go,” as well as on-air personalities from Univision Tampa, La Maxima and Radio Disney.
Other special events include games with the Tampa Bay Rays Street Team, live music by A Son De Plena, traditional foods, free rides and piñatas given to some of the animals.
Día del Niño, or “day of the child,” is observed in many Latin American countries as a day to celebrate childhood.
“Every day is a day for children at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, but we are devoting this special day known as “Día del Niño” to serving children of diverse populations, including households where Spanish is spoken,” said Craig Pugh, executive director and CEO of the zoo.
All activities are included with regular zoo admission, which runs $24.95 for adults and $19.95 for children 11 and under.
