The well-reviewed documentary about the meteoric rise of NBA star Jeremy Lin gets its Florida premiere Thursday at the Muvico Ybor Centro 20 in Tampa.
“Linsanity: The Jeremy Lin Story,” which screens at 7:30 p.m., premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where it received a standing ovation.
The independent documentary tells the story of the undrafted Harvard grad who became an international sensation when he came off the bench and suddenly gave New York Knicks fans a reason to celebrate during an otherwise abysmal 2012 season.
The film, described as both a sports drama and a heartwarming immigrant-made-good story, also explores how race played a role in the Taiwanese-American Lin's playing career.
“Linsanity” is being screened as part the Gasparilla International Film Festival's new Indie Film Series, which offers one-night Tampa screenings of films that are generating buzz at festivals, but aren't being released locally.
