Free Friday Extra concerts return to Tampa parks in April

Local music will fill the air Friday evenings in Tampa this spring when the Friday Extra Concert Series returns for a 27th year.

The series will feature a free outdoor concert every Friday at 7 p.m. Concerts will take place from April 4 through 25 at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, and from May 2 to 23 at the Lowry Park Bandshell.

The lineup features a mix of locally-based musicians spanning genres from rock to country to jazz.

The concerts are sponsored by the Tampa Tribune and organized by the City of Tampa.

The concerts will be rebroadcast on the City of Tampa Television Channel (15 on Verizon Fios, 615 on Brighthouse) each Monday at 8 a.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m. and Friday at 6 p.m. the following week.

Here’s the full lineup:

April 4: The Ken Petersen Band (classic rock), Sydney (acoustic soul and folk)

April 11: Urban Gypsies (tribal, disco, bluegrass and funk), Tim Hutchinson (acoustic folk and pop)

April 25: Southern Train (country), Amer Lynn (country)

May 2: Johnny Cakes and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypso (ska punk), Danielle Decosmo (acoustic folk, pop)

May 9: Theatre (rock), Diana Deiber (acoustic folk, pop)

May 16: Mindwalk (jazz), Al Secen Jazz Quartet (jazz)

May 23: Distinguished Men of Brass, Duo Vida (world contemporary)
