Runners may have been pristine when they arrived at Tampa’s first-ever Flavor Run 5K on Saturday morning, but when it was done they were a colorful mess.
At the Florida State Fairgrounds, as more than 2,000 runners and walkers hit the ground for the charity event, they were struck with clouds of colored cornstarch in banana, orange, grape and blueberry flavors. Throughout the route, designated “flavorteers” threw handfuls of the powder at the crowd.
It stuck to their clothes and clung to their perspiring faces as they moved through the colorful cloud.
White T-shirts, and a few tutus, looked as if they’d been tie-dyed.
Participants laughed and smiled with each bombardment in an event that benefited many local charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Camp Boggy Creek, Kids Charity and the Children’s Cancer Center.
