Dress your dog for Halloween costume contests around Tampa Bay

Published:

If you’re the type who enjoys dressing your Labrador like a lobster, outfitting your pit bull like a princess or making your weiner dog look like, well, a weiner, you’re in luck.

The Tampa area events calendar is packed with costume contests for dogs in the weeks leading up to Halloween.

Here’s a list of your options, just make sure you spend some of that prize money on a new chew toy.

Woofstock: Billed as a day of “peace, paws, and music,” this event will include live bands, animal blessings and raffles, plus contests for the “hairiest” dog, best trick, best dog/owner look alike pair and best Halloween costume. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Highlander Park, Dunedin. Admission is free.

Dogtoberfest: The outdoor mall will be overrun with pooches taking on the doggie obstacle course. There’s also on-site pet adoptions from various Tampa Bay area rescues and a costume contest (where the first 200 costumed dogs receive a medal). Sunday, noon to 6 p.m., The Shops At Wiregrass, Wesley Chapel. Admission is free.

Stride for Strays Tailgate Pawty: Dogs and their owners can join this 3K walk around Raymond James Stadium to raise funds for the Animal Coalition of Tampa. There will be dock diving in the doggie fun zone, K-9 demonstrations and massages for dogs and humans. The costume contest is hosted by Veronica Cintron from Bay News 9. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Raymond James Stadium, Tampa. Donation is $25 for walkers, $5 for non-walkers.

Pawsitively Posh Costume Party: The posh pet boutique turns their weekly “yappy hour” into a costume contest for pets and humans, with prizes for the best outfits. Beer, wine and snacks will be served. Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., Pawsitively Posh Pooch Classy Cats Too, St. Petersburg. Admission is free.

Groovy Monster Bash: Bring your dog along for this party featuring live music, keepsake pet portraits, prize raffles, goodie bags for the first 20 guests and a pet costume contest. Proceeds benefit bull terrier and English bulldog rescue groups. Refreshments will be served. Oct. 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Groovy Cats & Dogs, Tampa. Tickets are $20 to $25.

Howl-O-Ween: This annual dog costume contest with prizes is sponsored by the Tampa-based The New Barker dog magazine and the Humane Society. Food trucks will be on hand and there will be special treats served up for pets. Oct. 27, 4 to 8 p.m., Sail Pavilion at the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa. Admission is free.
