How will folks in downtown Tampa celebrate St. Patrick's Day? With a green river and giant-sized Shamrock Shake.
Watch the Hillsborough River turn green on Saturday when Mayor Bob Buckhorn hosts the first River O'Green Fest.
The event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, will feature six food trucks, Irish beer, a potato sack race, a potato toss, a jig dance competition and live entertainment.
Also featured will be a 10-foot McDonald's Shamrock Shake. The cup will be positioned on its side when the river - between the Cass Street and Kennedy bridges - is turned green at 10 a.m., appearing to spill into the river.
"St. Patrick's Day is an opportunity to celebrate our Irish heritage because everyone knows Ponce de Leon was really Ponce O'Leon," Buckhorn joked in a news release.
