Voters ensured that a real-life dolphin beat out a cartoon mouse for the title of “Best Florida Attraction” in 2013.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium will be announced as 10best.com’s “Best Florida Attraction” in the Friday edition of USA Today, the aquarium announced today.
The aquarium was one of 20 Florida attractions chosen by the website’s editors to be voted on by readers. Other attractions vying for the top spot included Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, The Ringling Museum in Sarasota and South Beach in Miami.
10best.com is a travel guide website operated by USA Today.
The success of the 2011 movie “A Dolphin Tale,” starring the aquarium’s prosthetic-tailed dolphin, “Winter,” raised the aquarium’s profile and has since drawn thousands of new visitors.
The filming of the sequel, “Dolphin Tale 2,” is on schedule to be completed at the aquarium in January, the aquarium said.
Visitors can see Winter the Dolphin, as well as other dolphins, sea turtles, river otters, stingrays, sharks and other marine animals at the aquarium during regular hours, Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Admission ranges from $6.95 to $9.95.
