Busch Gardens lion cubs get pumpkins for Halloween

Busch Gardens lion cubs Kembe, Shaba and Shtuko celebrated Halloween this week with a special treat.

The two 6-month-old sisters and 7-month-old male indulged in their own pumpkins as part of the theme park’s annual fall enrichment.

The cubs were brought to Busch Gardens from South Africa in May. All three cubs have genetic lines from the Kalahari and Kruger regions of South Africa, where lions are known for their massive size and dark, striking manes on the males.

The plan is that when the cubs are old enough, both Shaba and Shtuko will mate with Kembe to produce their own cubs, the park said.

The three cubs can be seen in the park’s Edge of Africa lion and hyena habitat.
