TAMPA — India’s version of the Oscars has set the date for its Tampa festival.
Officials with the International Indian Film Academy announced on Monday they have chosen April 24-26 for next year’s awards program.
Santiago Corrada, executive director of Visit Tampa Bay, the region’s lead tourism agency, said program officials will announce ticket sales in January.
“There’s some stuff that’s going to be happening fast from here on,” Corrada said Monday afternoon.
Corrada said organizers are working with several venues around Tampa to host different parts of the four-day event. The list includes the Tampa Convention Center, the Tampa Theatre and the Sundome at the University of South Florida.
The main awards show is planned for April 26 at Raymond James Stadium. It will be one of the few times the program has been staged outside, Corrada said.
Corrada said the awards program was originally planned for the summer, but was moved up so organizers could use Raymond James during the dry season.
The festival is likely to draw up to 40,000 people to the main awards show and thousands more to parties around Tampa.
Tampa will be the first U.S. city to host the awards program, which travels the world from year to year. This year it was held in Macau on the southern coast of China. Other hosts have included Singapore, Toronto and London.
