She’s back! Again! With her million dollar smile and graceful dancing skills, Madhuri Dixit-Nene is a hugely popular Hindi film actress who has been charming audiences for over two decades. She will be in Tampa performing at the IIFA Awards main program on Saturday, April 26, and stars in “Gulaab Gang,” directed by Soumik Sen, which released March 7. She features alongside Juhi Chawla, her contemporary in the 1990s, though they had never worked together previously.
The film tells the story of a gang of women fighting against social injustice, in central India. Madhuri plays Rajjo, the group’s firebrand leader in the ashram where they ground spices, make handmade baskets and saris while also fighting for their rights. Juhi Chawla who plays an evil, ambitious politician, was initially unsure if she would be accepted by the audience in this negative role. While she had previously learned some Tae kwon do, Madhuri trained in martial arts to get the action scenes right and has done most of the stunts herself. The debutant director has also composed the film’s music.
