If you’re looking for fresh-brewed coffee in Seminole Heights, choices are limited — a little surprising in a neighborhood that’s quickly growing thick with hip, new places to eat and drink.
There’s Starbucks on Hillsborough Avenue, an always popular, and often crowded, choice. There’s also the charming independent, Jet City Espresso, which expanded from its Hyde Park bungalow into a location on N. Florida Avenue earlier this year (both locations remain open).
On Saturday, there will be a new option for a caffeine fix in Seminole Heights, if only for one day.
Seminole Heights record store Microgroove will open early to host “the official debut” of Commune + Co. coffee — a temporary pop-up coffee shop that will be open inside the N. Florida Avenue store from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The gourmet, coffee-brewing company, which is working toward opening a brick-and-mortar shop in Ybor City, is planning to bring its coffee to special events and pop-up shops at different businesses around the city, such as Health Mutt, Velo Champ, & New World Brewery, in the coming weeks.
The thing that Commune +Co. founder Joel Davis said sets his coffee apart is "a proprietary method of brewing iced coffee that we have pioneered."
"The traditional method of brewing iced coffee involves a process that takes anywhere from 8 to 16 hours, and takes really exciting coffees and makes them really boring. We introduce pressure into the cold brewing process, which allows us to highlight what makes a particular coffee exciting," he said.
Saturday’s Commune + Co. pop-up shop will be serving hand-crafted “pressure-brewed ice coffee off the nitro tap,” plus offering slow bar service throughout the day.
