Green Iguana wins Tampa’s Burger Showdown

Published:

Friday’s steady rain couldn’t dampen the appetite of burger aficionados who braved the storms to take part in in the third Burger Showdown at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Tampa.

Green Iguana emerged from the soggy festivities to win the top prize, being named Best Burger by a panel of culinary and celebrity judges.

The event — which allowed visitors unlimited burger sampling and one drink ticket — pit chefs from across the Tampa Bay area against each other in the culinary competition.

Green Iguana again earned the title, after winning in 2012.

Other winners:

♦  People’s Choice (voted on by attendees): Danny’s All American Diner (its second consecutive victory);

♦  Best Use of Bacon: EATS! American Grill (last year’s Best Burger winner);

♦  Bring The Heat: James Joyce Irish Pub.

Other competing restaurants included Ferg’s Live, Danny’s All America Diner and and Me and My Grillfriend.

The event raised money for the Culinary Operations Academy Booster Organization, which provides financial resources and other assistance to Culinary Operations Academy students at Chamberlain High School.
