Sheriff: Bodies in Brandon home victims of double homicide

BRANDON — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double homicide that occurred in a Brandon town home, and detectives want to talk to a young man about the case.

The women, who are 23 and 24 years old, were found inside the home on Thursday afternoon. Deputies didn't disclose the cause of death or identify the women.

The home had extensive fire and smoke damage, said Hillsborough County Sheriff's David Gee, who spoke to the media Thursday night outside the Carlisle Club Townhomes, 1528 Highland Ridge Circle, Brandon.

The fire smoldered for a long time and appears to have been set to cover up the double homicide, Gee said.

“It's a mess inside,” Gee said. “We are very fortunate that we didn't have a blaze that burned an entire complex.”

Investigators are searching for Charles Martinez, 24, of Tampa. He lived part-time in the townhome with the two women, Gee said. He said investigators still were looking into the nature of his relationship with the women.

A brown 2000 Mazda Protege that Martinez is known to drive was found by investigators in Dover on Thursday night.

Martinez, who has a lengthy criminal record, has warrants from a previous case for home invasion robbery and false imprisonment.

Anyone with information on Martinez's whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200.

Investigators entered the townhome unit on Thursday night after receiving a search warrant. Detectives were still processing the scene late Thursday. The sheriff's office is being assisted in the investigation by Florida State Fire Marshal's Office with its accelerant-searching dogs and by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arson investigators.
